Education

Christian education is an important mission of the church and we offer programs to meet the needs of all age groups.  Our goal is to broaden understanding of the bible and what it means to be a “Christian.” All of our programs are open to members and non-members alike.  All are welcome to attend.

+Sunday School

Our Sunday School program serves children from pre-school through 7th grade.  Classes meet on Sunday mornings during the school year from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. We follow the Cokesbury curriculum. Throughout the year, the curriculum is complemented by other activities including; Advent program; hosting Senior Breakfasts; serving as greeters & ushers; and missions projects. All children are welcome to attend.

+Confirmation Class

Prospective confirmands will attend confirmation class during 8th grade. Classes meet every Sunday afternoon throughout the school year.  The pastor leads the students through an in-depth study of our Christian beliefs, what it means to be a “Christian”, and what it means to be a member of a church. The confirmation ceremony takes place on Pentecost Sunday. Confirmands will also complete a special confirmation project, and each student will have a volunteer mentor from the congregation to assist them in this effort.

+Adult Discussion Group

The adult discussion group takes place during Sunday School time (9:00 – 9:45 a.m.) and is a casual, free-form environment in which participants discuss with the pastor topics of Christian interest and relevance.

+Disciple Course

The Disciple curriculum is an in-depth bible study series aimed at broadening participants’ knowledge of both the Old and New Testaments, and making disciples of Jesus Christ. Disciple Courses 1, 2, and 3 are offered on a rotational basis. Classes meet once a week in the evening during the school year and are led by Rev. Karen McMartin (Retired Pastor in Residence).

Vacation Bible School

For one week every August, the church holds a Vacation Bible School (VBS) program. All children from preschool through 4th grade – regardless of church affiliation – are invited and welcome to attend. The program is run by adult volunteers with plenty of youthful volunteer assistance. Classes meet from 9:00 – 12:00 every day for one week. We generally follow the Cokesbury curriculum, providing bible lessons, crafts, music and recreation. The program culminates on Friday with a concert performed by the children followed by a reception in the Friendship Hall. All parents, family, and friends are welcome to attend the Friday events. There is no charge for Vacation Bible School.
